Biography

A former TEPSIS Doctoral Fellow at EHESS, Paris, Lina Tsrimova dedicated her disserta-tion to the theme Under the Empire’s Eye: The Construction of the Caucasus and the Caucasians (Late Eighteenth Century – 1850). During the same period, she became vis-iting student researcher at the University of California, Berkeley. Lina is a founder and organiser of the doctoral Workshop of ongoing works at CERCEC and CETOBAC, in EHESS. In 2014–15, she participated in the organisation of the international research seminar of Social Sciences in Caucasian and Post-Soviet studies at the Institute of Oriental Research of Tbilisi. Previously, she had notably written an MA dissertation at the University of Russia for the People’s Friendship, Moscow, on ‘The Construction of the Terrorist by modern day Russia’s media’. In 2021, Lina co-authored the documentary film by Denis Gheerbrant, Avant que le ciel n’apparaisse (‘Before the Sky Appears’, Films d’Ici, selected at the Cinéma du Réel festival of Cannes), on the heritages of Adyghe culture in the memory of the nineteenth-century colonial wars. The following year, she co-directed the documentary film La Colline (‘The Hill’, ACID, 2022, selected at the Cannes Festival), on the fates of women, men and children who live and work in a recycling centre near Bishkek, the capital of Qirghizstan.
